Class F2/Y1T

Autumn Term  - 2019

Welcome back!

I hope you have all enjoyed your summer holidays and have created some wonderful memories that I can’t wait to hear about! I hope your batteries are recharged and you’re ready to … into the new school year.

What an exciting start to the new school year we have! We will be beginning our new school year with reading ‘Little Red Riding Hood’. We will be taking a stroll through the ‘Deep Dark Woods’ as children will be learning to write story settings, character descriptions and writing an alternative version of the story. We will begin to explore with expanded noun phrases and conjunctions to extend sentences. The children will have a large focus around simple sentence structure by ensuring the consistency of capital letters, finger spaces and full stops.

In Mathematics, the children will begin on place value to 10. This includes; grouping objects and numbers, ordering numbers, finding one more and one less than a number, addition and subtraction. Once the children are secure, they will begin to explore numbers up to 20.

In Science, the children will be exploring the Human Life-Cycle. We will begin by identifying, naming, drawing and labelling the basic parts of the human body and say which part of the body is associated with each sense.

In Art, the children will begin by sketching self-portraits focussing especially on the placement of facial features. They will be taking a dive into a colour wheel as they explore mixing Primary Colours to create Secondary Colours. This key skill will aid the children in creating artwork by the famous artist Pablo Picasso.

We look forward to a fun-filled year of learning!

Your child will receive times tables and spellings practice sheets every Friday which need to be completed by the following Thursday. They are also expected to read at least 5 times a week which needs to be recorded in their reading records by an adult. This is also expected during school holidays too. They have PE on a Tuesday Afternoon so are expected to bring their PE kits into school on a Monday and it will be sent home on a Friday. The children who complete all of these will gain a raffle ticket for the chance to win a prize as part of our whole school ‘In it to win it’ challenge.
